De La Soul & The X-Ecutioners @ The Jazz Cafe, London
We got there at about 9 and Maseo was already performing, just general DJ'ing, warming up the crowd that sort of stuff. At about 9:30 Dave & Pos came down and ripped it up. I think their set went on until about 12:30, maybe a little later. But they played a bunch of stuff from all of their albums. And Butta Verses was there in support (More of a cameo) on their song "No", But I think he stuck around for a little bit. They did a pretty dope version of "Potholes In My Lawn", and there was quite alot of crowd participation throughout the whole set. I remember a dope rendition of "Me, Myself & I" as well. They began doing "Rock Co.Kane Flow" but cut the beat when it came 'round to where Doom would start. They did this 3 times and it got a little tiresome. They left after about a 30 minute encore... And informed everyone that the X-Ecutioners were coming out in 10 minutes.

When I booked our tickets I didn't know that we'd be allowed to stay for their set as it was a seperately billed event. But everybody stayed on until closing time. It did drag a little bit, with no MC'ing and towards the end of the night I became a little drunk and unattentive. Roc Raida did some cool stuff, and a surprising ammount of people stayed until the very end to show their support. We left at 3:00, and here are some pictures!

Check out 'Big Fun In The Big Town' - an incredible 60 minute Hip Hop documentary shown on Dutch television in 1986, featuring interviews with LL Cool J, Russell Simmons, DMC and Doug E Fresh, and live performances by MC Shan, a slim Biz Markie with Roxanne Shante, and Grandmaster Flash ... Gotta have RealPlayer to play this..

heh, daca si HBMS mai is "rare"..

The album that really established Rawkus Records outside of New York, helped launch the careers of Mos Def and the mighty El-P, and introduced alot of people to what it really means to be a DJ. Far from commercial in content, Soundbombing still managed to sell by the shedload all over the place, and remains quite an unusual example of an underground mixtape that made it big - music of our times, and though released in 1999 it's still fresher than most of todays product. Shawn J. Period and El-P produce many of the beats, and the set consists of their own Rawkus 12"s released throughout 1997. As it says on the cover, 'The Ultimate Guide To Underground Hip Hop' - not far from the truth.
