Blah, blah about Eminem!

Post by sunrah »

Superstar rapper Eminem has been hit with a lawsuit by his aunt and uncle in an unusual claim filed in Macomb County Court, a lawyer confirmed with AllHipHop.com.
Jack and Betti Schmitt claim that they sold their Missouri home because the Detroit rapper wanted to maintain family ties. The lawsuit says that Eminem built the Schmitt??€s a home and promised to pay them $100,000 per year. The lawsuit further states that the rapper refuses to put the title in the Schmitt's name and that he has fallen short on his promise to pay them the $100,000. The couple is seeking at least $25,000, as the Macomb County Circuit Court handles all civil cases involving at least that amount. They are represented by Kevin Green, an attorney in Shelby Township, Michigan. Green confirmed the lawsuit with AllHipHop.com, but declined further comment. The rapper recently cancelled his European leg of the "Anger Management 3" tour due to exhaustion and other related medical issues. Interscope confirmed the rapper was being treated for various medical ailments, but none were specifically named.
Representatives for Eminem did not have comments as of press time.

Eminem in Rehab

Two days after deep-sixing his European tour citing "exhaustion," Eminem has confirmed through his publicist that he is in rehab.
The Grammy-winning rapper "is in the hospital under doctors' care," Interscope Records spokesman Dennis Dennehy said in a brief statement Thursday. "He is being treated for dependency on sleep medication." No further details were released. However, Star magazine reported that the rapper had checked in to a facility in his native Michigan. Eminem has rapped about the wonders of LSD, has reportedly popped Ecstasy and even has a Vicodin tattoo, but he had claimed to have reformed his bad-boy lifestyle over the past few years. On Tuesday, Dennehy released a statement announcing the cancellation of the 10-date European leg of the rapper's Anger Management 3 tour. At the time, Dennehy would only say the 32-year-old rapper nixed the trip due to "exhaustion, complicated by other medical issues" and that he was being treated for the undisclosed maladies. The European sojourn was set to kick off Sept. 1 in Hamburg and wrap Sept. 17 in Dublin. The dates won't likely be rescheduled. Eminem had finished the U.S. run of the tour, which also featured 50 Cent, Lil Jon and members of the G-Unit crew, Aug. 13 in his hometown of Detroit. The trek had been marred by a major bus accident en route to Denver July 13, in which several members of the tour, including Eminem's deejay, were hospitalized. News of Eminem's rehab stint comes amid some other trouble for the rapper. After having weathered salvos from his mother, grandmother and ex-wife, Eminem now faces a lawsuit from his aunt and uncle, Betty and Jack Schmitt, who claim he is trying to evict them from a house he had built for them and renegged on a promise to pay them a yearly stipend of $100,000. In their suit filed Aug. 12 in Michigan's Macomb County Court, the couple are seeking $350,000 in cash and ownership of the property, according to documents posted at the Smoking Gun. In July, the Detroit Free Press reported the rapper otherwise known as Marshall Mathers III would be retiring from recording and performing following the European tour and instead focus on producing other artists. But Mathers angrily dismissed the report, telling MTV.com, "When I say I'm taking a break, I'm taking a break from my music to go in the studio and produce my other artists and put their albums out.

"When I know my next move, I'll tell everyone my next move."

If indeed he retires, he will go out as the best selling hip-hop artist of all time. His four solo studio albums--1999's The Slim Shady LP, 2000's The Marshall Mathers LP, 2002's The Eminem Show and Encore--have moved more than 25 million copies in the U.S. alone and generated sales of more than $1 billion.
He's also won nine Grammys to go along with his Best Song Oscar for the 8 Mile track "Lose Yourself."
As an A&R man for his Shady Records, he guided 50 Cent's monster-selling debut release, Get Rich or Die Tryin' and has shepherded releases for his G-Unit posse and his Detroit rap crew D12.

(CNN) -- Grammy- and Oscar-winning rapper Eminem is being treated for a dependency on sleeping pills, his publicist announced Thursday.
In a short statement, Lauren Burns said Eminem is "in the hospital under doctors' care. He is being treated for dependency on sleep medication."
On Tuesday, Eminem announced he was canceling his 10-city European tour, which was supposed to start in Hamburg, Germany on September 1 and end in Dublin, Ireland September 17.
In a statement on his Web site, the singer said he was being treated for "exhaustion, complicated by other medical issues."
It did not mention any dependency on sleeping pills and Burns did not elaborate on what treatment the star was receiving, or where he was hospitalized.
The site said the European shows "are not expected to be rescheduled."
The 32-year-old rapper -- whose real name is Marshall Mathers III -- has won nine Grammy awards since 1999. In addition, he won an Academy Award for best song for "Lose Yourself." The song was featured in the semi-autobiographical 2002 film "8 Mile," in which he starred. Eminem's critics say his lyrics are violent and offensive to women and homosexuals.

Kanye West Calls For An End To Gay-Bashing

Post by sunrah »

NEW YORK (AP) - Kanye West says ``gay'' has become an antonym to hip-hop - and that it needs to be stopped.

During an interview for an MTV special, the 27-year-old rapper launched into a discussion about hip-hop and homosexuality while talking about ``Hey Mama,'' a song on his upcoming album, ``Late Registration.''
West says that when he was young, people would call him a ``mama's boy.''
``And what happened was, it made me kind of homophobic, 'cause it's like I would go back and question myself,'' West says on the show, ``All Eyes on Kanye West,'' set to air Thursday night (10:30 p.m. ET).
West says he changed his ways, though, when he learned one of his cousins was gay.
``It was kind of like a turning point when I was like, `Yo, this is my cousin. I love him and I've been discriminating against gays.'''
West says hip-hop was always about ``speaking your mind and about breaking down barriers, but everyone in hip-hop discriminates against gay people.'' He adds that in slang, gay is ``the opposite, the exact opposite word of hip-hop.''
Kanye's message: ``Not just hip-hop, but America just discriminates. And I wanna just, to come on TV and just tell my rappers, just tell my friends, `Yo, stop it.'''
West, whose debut disc ``The College Dropout'' won a Grammy for best rap album, will see his second record in stores on Aug. 30.

KWELI'S BLACKSMITH IMPRINT FORGES DEAL WITH ATLANTIC

Word on the streets is that Talib Kweli is taking his beautiful struggle over to a new label. Kweli and his Blacksmith management company have recently secured a deal through Atlantic Recordings. While the details are still rather sketchy at press time, word is that 4 interesting artists are looking to drop albums with Kweli. The first is Jean Grae (which is semi confirmed), the second being Camp Lo (rumor). The other two that could make an immediate impact if the rumors are true are none other than the legendary Rakim and the masked emcee MF Doom! Lord have mercy! If this is true, this could be something real serious. But we'll just have to wait and see. - Andreas Hale

Kanye West says Late Reg. must sell 2.6 mill to break even

Post by sunrah »

West treats crowd to 'Late Registration' - Grammy winner looks outside of hip hop to create much anticipated sophomore album.

By Adam Graham The Detroit News

Inside a nondescript office building in Troy Wednesday evening, music's hottest entity, Grammy-winning rapper-producer Kanye West, was on hand to unveil the year's most-anticipated album, West's sophomore effort "Late Registration."

"This album will change the game," the Chicago native confidently told a group of more than 40 industry professionals, DJs and journalists assembled to hear the record, the follow-up to last year's triple-platinum "The College Dropout."

"Brace yourself, I don't want anybody to get hurt," he said as he started into the album's first track, "Heard 'Em Say."

Immediately, it was clear people were feeling it, but no one was digging it more than West himself: He nodded his head throughout, mouthed the words to "Touch the Sky," raised his fist in the air during the pounding "Crack Music," formed a celebratory diamond sign with his hands during "Diamonds From Sierra Leone" and stood up and rapped along to the triumphant, genre-bending "We Major," which went over so well he decided to play it twice.

He even kept his cool when the sound system went dead during "Drive Slow."

The room burst into applause several times, but West repeatedly shushed them, so they wouldn't miss a moment of his work.
West, 27, recorded the album with producer Jon Brion, best known for his work with Fiona Apple (of whom West is a huge admiror) and his film scores ("Magnolia," "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind").
In a Q&A session afterwards, West made it clear he looked outside of hip-hop for inspiration for "Late Registration," saying he and Brion spent hours in the studio listening to old Beatles and Jackson 5 records.
There are enough musical flourishes on "Late Registration" to make any audiophile's ears perk up, which is not surprising, considering West and Brion's influences: There's pipe organs on "We Belong," a 20-piece orchestra on "Gone," a harpsichord on "Diamonds" and a string section on "Hey Mama."

An impressive list of guests drops in on "Late Registration," including Jay-Z, Nas, Jamie Foxx and Patti Labelle. But there are two people West has never worked with, whom he says it's his dream to collaborate with in the future: Lauryn Hill and Eminem.

West said "Late Registration" cost $2 million to make and needs to sell 2.6 million copies to break even. He even lamented the security surrounding the album, which is under lock and key until its Aug. 30 release.

"I think downloading is the best thing ever. I'm like, 'When's my bootleg coming out?' " he said. "I want people to hear the music!"

But as cocky as he is -- "I would hate to not be me!" he bragged at one point, later adding he feels sorry for other people who aren't him -- he knows he has room to improve, and says he plans on taking poetry lessons to bone up on his lyric-writing skills before writing his next album, which is tentatively due next year.

Before that, he has plans to hit the road with a 20-piece orchestra. He says he's playing some dates with U2 later this year, and he's been talking to Coldplay's Chris Martin about hooking up on the road.

But currently, the focus is on "Late Registration."

"I wanted to make an album where there was no fast-forward material on it," he said, adding -- in typical West fashion -- he's confident he's made the album of the year, an "uncriticizable" achievement deserving of the top honor at next year's Grammy Awards.

But if he were to lose, "I'd be happy to lose to System of a Down," he said of the Armenian-American metal maniacs, whose "Mesmerize" was released in May.

"That's my favorite album of the year so far," he says.

The Roots, Common, RJD2 In NBA 2006

Synergy can be a great thing. 2K Sports, the most athletic appendage of the video game behemoth Take-Two, is combining their knack for entertaining thumbs with hip-hop's knack for entertaining feet to create a game and accompanying record that will get all your extremities moving. NBA 2K6, their newest installment of b-ball for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, will feature original music from b-boys Redman, Common, RJD2, the Roots, Little Brother, Lyrics Born, Blackalicious, Jean Grae, Heiroglyphics, Aceyalone, Zion I, Aesop Rock and Skillz. :o
All the songs will be released separately on the compilation The Tracks by Decon Records, and both the album and game will be promoted by the 2K Sports Bounce Tour headlined by the Roots, RJD2, Aceyalone and more. And if that wasn't enough entertainment crossover for one news story, check this: 2K6 features a mode where you can play in Harlem's famous Rucker Park as a rapper from the soundtrack and beyond (cameos include Method Man, Redman, Flava Flav, ?uestlove, Common and Aesop Rock). If you've ever wanted to throw up bricks with the Brick City Bandit, or keep the rock away from Flava Flav, this might be just what the sports doctor ordered.
