Most of you probably haven’t heard Danger Mouse & Jemini’s Ghetto Pop Life, that is because it came out before The Grey Album. Before he was climbing the charts producing for the Gorillaz, DangerDOOM and Gnarls Barkley, Danger Mouse was just another producer trying to get his name out. It was remixing Jay-Z’s The Black Album into the controversial Grey Album that put him on the map.
Now it’s your chance to make your mark remixing Jay. The American Gangster acappella’s are here and waiting to be recreated. HipHopDX loved the creativity with The Black Album remixes so we’re getting involved this time. Remix American Gangster and submit to HipHopDX.com before December 31st and you’ll have the chance to see it marketed worldwide. Our staff and readers will vote and choose the best, we’ll take the winner and create the artwork and distribute to millions across the web for free download. We will also press up 500 copies and have our street team give them out across the US.

Taking the backseat to Josh Groban and The Eagles, Alicia Keys comes in at #3 this week selling over 257k in her third week and on a steady pace to go double platinum. Chris Brown falls from the Top 10 this week after selling about 73k which landed him at #11, meanwhile Jay-Z's American Gangster makes the highest chart appearance for any rap album at #17. This week Hov's concept album sold just under 52k in its fourth week. Underground group Cunninlynguists' Dirty Acres failed to enter the Top 200 album charts selling 755 copies in their first week, while former six-figure-selling Cormega's Who Am I sold 643 copies in his second week.

With all the American Gangers remix albums popping up lately; we tend to forget about all the previous joints that Hov blessed us with. Figment & Mash-Up Productions drop a gem on us with the release of The Motown Album, which combines Jay’s Black Album with classics such as “If I Were Your Woman”, “Neither One of Us”, and “Love Hangover.”
It’s no doubt that the Mash-Up Productions was successfully able to take a handful of Motown joints and provide just enough grit to what I originally considered to originally be a lackluster and overproduced release. I have to admit that I was surprisingly impressed with their attention to detail, especially with the restyled organ sample featured in the remake of “Public Service Announcement.” Plus, did you peep the cover artwork with the 45 on the back??? Classic!
you just never know when you're living in a golden age.
