Mos Def's Katrina Klap Blasts the Administration - New Music

Post by sunrah »

Image
Taking back his position as Brooklyn's own controversial and conscious emcee, Mos Def addresses the hurricane disaster, racism and the president on "Katrina Clap." On the song, which uses the original beat from Juvenile's "Nolia Clap," Mos cries out to God to "save the streets" and each person to donate at least "$1" for relief efforts.

http://www.presstheissue.org/

Mos Def Toronto Interview is now in the presstheissue.org forum

Last thursday, Mos Def hosted and performed at a hastily organized benefit at the Crystal Room on Queen St. Over $4000 was raised for the Red Cross. No sooner had we sat down on the patio to talk with the new Toronto resident than a fan walking by on the street recognized the rapper and hugged him.

Q: As you can see, we're glad to have you here.

A: I love for y'all to have me. And thank God for y'all city. Harriet Tubman knew what she was doing.

Q: So why did you want to make "Dollar Day"?
A: Why not, really? I'm just a human being and I see human beings suffering, and a lot of them human beings happened to look a lot like me. Pain in life is inevitable, but that kind of suffering is extra.

Q: Tell me about the song. Why'd you use the Nolia Clap (a beat originally used by Crescent City rapper Juvenile)?
A: Because it's New Orleans. It's something that people from the communities could recognize. My real aim with "Dollar Day" is, God willing, to raise $250 million independently, to help adjust the means of the poorest and the weakest, in not just New Orleans but all throughout the Delta region.

Q: I'm sure you saw Kanye West. What did you think about his comments?
A: I agree. The funniest thing about the response to what Kanye said is this: Black people have been saying that about, not just (President George W.) Bush, but many of the administrations in America. Their lack of concern for black people, poor people, is true. You know, action kills argument.

Q: Where should people send their money?
A: There are a lot of charities out there using this incident as an opportunity to fatten their pockets. People have to really think about how they can help. And I'm challenging myself on what it is I can do. I'm not necessarily a revolutionary. I'm a rebel. I have no ambitions beyond just trying to be useful.
To be perfectly honest with you, the entire notion of celebrity, the attendants, is slightly uncomfortable... as an artist, I need to be in a space where I can observe life as opposed to having everyone observe me.

Dave Ghetto "LoveLife?" LP leaked...PEEP!

Post by sunrah »

Dave Ghetto's long awaited album "LoveLife" just got leaked. Sad sh*t that it was due to a journalist who had the advanced copy... and I'll keep "Nameless". It got leaked.. whack!! So instead of some bootlegger selling it to you on canal street tommorow morning, I Told Danny to leave it up for today so that my peeps can check it out at least. It won't be up for long. This album is gonna be a classic.

Come on down to Root Down Records (cum stau "piesele" aici)

Lewis Parker Put A Beat 2 A Rhime LP (UKHH Review)

Lewis Parker is a stalwart of the UK Hip Hop scene. He's been putting in the hard graft for longer than a minute now and is one of only a few Hip Hop acts that has made it past album number 2. There's a reason for this, and that's quite simply that he is a master of his craft, be that emceeing or beat-making.

It's the beat-making that's the focus for his latest project, Put A Beat 2 A Rhime, as for this long player, Lewis has taken on the mammoth task of remixing a whole heap of heavyweight US bangers. As a side note, I'm sure quite a few of you guys have already copped, or at least checked this album by now. Who knows, you may even have been one of those folks that paid some serious bucks on Ebay for the promo / test press a few months back. Either way, it's been a long time coming, but finally the full picture cover version of Put A Beat 2 A Rhime is now available, and as far as I'm aware, it's been re-mastered and sounds crisper than ever.

As a rule of thumb for successful remixing, it's pretty fair to say that the remix really has to improve on the original, or at the very least offer up something different, so when you consider that some of these tracks were originally produced by legends such as Pete Rock and DJ Premier, you know Lewis Parker has really set a high standard for himself to compete with. Lewis turns his hand to some seriously hot tracks, and first up to receive the Parker magic is Jay-Z's massive Dirt Off Your Shoulder, which is flipped on some seriously raw flex that works nicely. INI's Fakin' Jax has a sinister, funky vibe that comes off sweet, and Royce's Boom rocks a quirky Batman theme-tune type beat. MOP's Pounds Up is a gritty reworking, while Terror Squad's Lean Back sounds like some 70's Private I, super-spy type shit with some dope sleazy flutes that totally add a different sound to that of the original. The Mobb Deep Drop A Gem On Em remix rides the same type of sound we expect to hear Havoc & Prodigy spitting over on that grimy dark tip, but with a proper groove to it, and Fat Joe's Firewater has a smooth melancholic edge to it that completely captivates the listener. Throughout, Put A Beat 2 A Rhime has a movie score feel to it with strongly arranged orchestral compositions that switch mood from track to track, really offering a different vibe to each jam.

So, Has Mr Parker bettered the production of the original tracks? That's open to debate, however Lewis certainly has offered up a new feel to these familiar tracks, and his done it in his own, ever impressive style. It's quality production such as this that has lead Lewis Parker onto some big things, and after checking Put A Beat 2 A Rhime, I'm even more eagerly awaiting the material that he's recently produced for Wu Tang Clan's Ghostface Killah. Trust me, Lewis Parker brings the heat on this album, proving he's still one of British Hip Hop's dopest producers out there. Don't sleep.

The Notorious B.I.G. and Bob Marley Team for Legendary Singl

Post by sunrah »

mda... dar de asta ce zici?

The Notorious B.I.G. and Bob Marley Team for Legendary Single

The Notorious B.I.G. and reggae icon, Bob Marley are revived for a posthumous duet called, "Hold Ya Hand."

The single produced by Clinton Sparks, is the fist to be released from the forthcoming The Notorious B.I.G. Duets: The Final Chapter. The duet inspired Sparks, who said he was looking for a standout concept for this important Biggie album.

"It was an honor to work on Biggie's last and final album," Sparks, a well-known mixtape DJ, told SOHH.com. "Given that the album is a duets album, I tried to come up with a concept that would stick out on this album for whatever song that I got placed. Concepts are what make great producers. I decided to pair up all the vocals that were given to me with icons or legends in the music biz that had already passed on as well.

"What better artist to do a collabo with than Bob Marley," added Sparks. "His music will always be timeless. I have bunch of other records in the can with Biggie and other artists who have passed on, and there is still time to make the album so I'm submitting them now."

"Hold Ya Hand" includes a sample of Marley's "Johnny Was" on the hook with classic verses from B.I.G. While the album is still in production as host of contributors have been making the rounds on the rumor mill, no other information has been released.

Notorious B.I.G. Duets: The Final Chapter is due in stores Nov. 29 via Bad Boy Records.

Corect.. dar gandeste-te ca sunt poate multe acapella-uri care nu au vazut lumina zilei, pe un negativ. Stiu, aici intervine altceva.
Ca pe altii nu-i intereseaza decat banu' ...fuck 'em all. Asta e.. oricum, ma-sa are cea mai mare parte din vina la faza asta (si chiar ma gandesc.. oare, in momentul de fata o mai face pentru ca si-a iubit fiul.. sau i-au luat banii mintile si ei?).
"Fuck 'em all!"
Right...
Despre Biggie... e exact acelasi kkt. Doua nume care (inca) aduc bani buni in buzunarele unora.. chestia asta nu se face pentru a le cinsti memoria (la cati ipocriti sunt in lumea asta..) ci doar pentru $. Asta e! :whipit:

When Musical Worlds Collide ... Prog 1 - Jazz and Hip Hop

Saturday 8 October 2005 18:00-18:30 (Radio 3)

Soweto Kinch, the award-winning saxophonist and rapper, looks at the interaction between jazz and hip hop. Is one a Bohemian, intellectual pursuit, while the other caters for gun-toting misogynists?

With the help of music from performers as varied as Cab Calloway, Slim Gaillard, Stetsasonic ( :o ), Quasimoto ( :D ) and Oliver Lake, Soweto digs deep into the cross-fertilisation of genres, and plays examples live in the studio - with his quartet, including Femi Temowo (guitar), Neil Charles (bass) and Troy Miller (drums).
