Jay-Z Making New Album
Image
While the Jiggaman himself hasn??€t officially announced that he will make another album, he certainly hasn??€t ruled it out either. When asked a couple weeks ago about another album he said ??€?I believe the industry as a whole needs certain events to happen to sustain it and keep it alive," Jay-Z said. "You need (Dr.) Dre albums, you need Eminem albums you need 50 (Cent) albums, you need big artists, you need major events that happen. So when I look at it in those terms, I believe that an album is needed.??€?
If that isn??€t enough, there have been three producers who??€ve outright claimed to be working on the album, two of which are long time and frequent collaborators. A couple weeks ago it was Pharrell telling Billboard he was working on a new album for Jay. Also a couple weeks ago Scott Storch told Rolling Stone he is doing some production for the come back album.
Now, it is long time collaborator Timbaland telling BBC that he??€ll be getting in the studio with the Marcy Projects legend. Much like Pharrell, he wouldn??€t divulge any details, but he nevertheless confirmed he??€d be working on it in the near future. I think its safe to say he can??€t leave rap alone, the game needs him.

Juggaknots Prepare To Use Your Confusion

Image

It??€s been three years since the last official Juggaknots full length release, Clear Blue Skies (Re:Release) dropped and since that time fans have been clamoring for some new JuggaKnots material. The recently released, The Love Deluxe Movement has been receiving lukewarm reviews and has left many Juggaknots fans wondering if the crew still had it in them. I spoke recently with one of the heads of Amalgam Entertainment, who stated the new JK album Use Your Confusion will silence all haters. Featuring appearances from Slick Rick and Nine (!!!!), the album is slated to drop 10/10/06.

The Game Drops Aftermath, Signs Deal With Geffen?

After widespread rumors, it now appears that The Game has left Aftermath Records for Geffen Records.

For months, rumors have been circulating that the Compton bred rapper had plans to leave the label to avoid releasing his sophomore album, The Doctor's Advocate under G-Unit Records.

According to the Interscope owned web site, comptongame.com, the presence of the Geffen Logo and the absence of the Aftermath Logo leads one to believe Game may have left.

Game, who released his debut album The Documentary via G-Unit/Aftermath Records, has been having an on-going feud with G-Unit honcho 50 Cent since last year.

Furthermore, a post by a fan on comptongame's forums says that in order for Game to avoid releasing The Doctor's Advocate under G-Unit/Aftermath, Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine advised him to sign a 5 album deal with Geffen for an undisclosed sum. In return, Game will receive a distribution deal for his record company, Black Wall Street which is under Interscope Records.

The fan post also adds that Dr. Dre and Game's relationship has not been affected by the label move. Dre will still play a big part in the making, marketing and the publicity of The Doctor's Advocate.

Representatives for Czar Entertainment and Interscope did not return calls for comments.

Earlier this week, The Game leaked one of the album's singles titled "One Blood." The Doctor's Advocate, which is set for release later this year, will feature appearances from Nas and Mary J Blige, while production is supplied by Cool & Dre, Scott Storch and Dr. Dre, among others.

Prodigy of Mobb Deep Was Not Killed, Going Overseas

Contrary to popular reports and persisent rumors, Prodigy of Mobb Deep was not killed this past weekend. Internet rumors have been swirling that Prodigy was killed in a shootout in Queens near his home, and that after he called the paramedics for help, he died on their way over. However, this rumor coincides with Mobb Deep announcing their tour dates for Europe, which would debunk the murder theory. Mobb Deep recently released Blood Money via G-Unit Records. However, despite the buzz, they did not sell many records, and at their current pace, will fail to even go gold. Despite this failure, it appears that 50 Cent is sticking with them.

Dr. Dre??€s Detox Album Revealed

Dr. Dre??€s highly anticipated yet secretive album Detox is now on full display. Scratch magazine devoted a whole issue to it, and interviews producers who have worked on the album: Hi-Tek, Denaun Porter, Nottz and Mahogany. These producers discussed which tracks they made and what will likely make it onto the album. Dre has been ultra quiet about his upcoming album, which has allegedly been in the works for at least 5 years. It will probably be considered a landmark album when it drops. Dre was most recently involved with Busta Rhymes, after producing his album. Also, Dre is reported to have worked with Jay-Z on Jay??€s upcoming, equally secretive album. This coming fall has a slew of highly anticipated albums from legendary artists: Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, Nas, Rakim, Method Man, and Scarface.

That's the shit.

Unlike its predecessor STREET'S DISCIPLE, HIP HOP IS DEAD harkens back to Nas' commercial pop-crossover albums as well as the poetic glory days of ILLMATIC. The New York hip-hop legend returns to the thoughtful, introspective philosophy that turned heads early in his recording career (with a little help from rap legend Rakim, the ever rambunctious Busta Rhymes, and former foe Jay-Z). Indeed there are some attempts at fancy, hook-laden production (thanks to Pharrell, Kelis and a newly invigorated Michael Jackson)--but most of the tracks go out of their way to be workaday, subservient frameworks to the lyrics. Sampling records (Louis Armstrong's "The Skokiaan", The Doors "Hello I Love You") that have never been used by other rappers, Nas makes it clear that his focus here is not only on the message but also on the sound. Lyrically, Nas addresses weighty topics as mortality, true love, religion, politics, family, personal responsibility and, of course, the currently ??€?deceased??€? state of hip-hop. Those themes might seem far from the thug-life reveries of many of his contemporaries, but for Nas it's business as usual. Ironically the record proves that rap music is far from dead.

New Mos Def

Mos Def Works 'Magic' on Ears and Feet

Brooklyn rapper/actor Mos Def will release his first album since 2004's 'The New Danger,' on Sept. 26. Dubbed 'True Magic,' the effort includes new tracks like 'The Undeniable' and 'There Is a Way.'

'True Magic' isn't the only new release from the prolific entertainer. Following the successful 24-second short film Mos created for Converse's Spring 2006 Brand Democracy ad campaign, he has his own Converse shoe coming out. The Chuck Taylor All Star Mid Music, based on the classic Chuck Taylor All Star sneaker, will be available Aug. 1 at both Foot Locker and the Converse Web site.

The sneaks will feature laser-etched pictures of the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan skyline.
