02. I Believe in You
03. Dreamin'
04. Superficial
05. Possibilities
06. Soul Divine

10. If You Can't Get Me Off Your Mind

12. This Is How
13. Waltz of a Ghetto Fly
Here is a presentation of sophisticated, modern sounds for grown ups. Many artists could list soul, funk, jazz, hip hop and r 'n' b as influences, but few could put such a personal and individual stamp on their sound. There's a definite 70's vibe - think Stevie, Sly and Shuggie - but the music always transcends pastiche. Lenny Kravitz is definitely not in the area.
Detroit born Amp has certainly had time to refine his style. His CV includes 12 years playing keyboards in the P-Funk Allstars, live and studio work with everyone from Primal Scream to Prince and a helping hand in Carl Craig's much praised Detroit Experiment. It's not suprising then, that the album features some top flight collaborations: George Clinton turns up on the title track and other guests include Only Child, Raphael Saadiq, J Dilla and the enigmatic Moodyman. There's even an appearance, on trumpet, from Amp's son.

01. Fenix Funk 5
02. Reunion 2
03. Pitcard
04. Crying in Your Face
05. Klopjob

It's the offical return of the Analord... Aphex Twin.
Nothing we didn't sort of know already, but a selection from his 11 EP's previously released on wax only.
Much like
Selected Ambient Works, but with some acid treatment perhaps?
Works well as an album either way.
Obviously, it would have been too simple sticking all Analords on a double-cd.

F.S. Blumm
Zweite Meer
Morr Music 2005
01. Sonn
02. Wass
03. Nie
04. Langen
05. Bitt
06. Lunten
07. Blick
08. Wandel
09. Fund
10. Oberer
11. Nah
12. Nachhall/Chroma Key
From the cover, you can tell this album was composed on road, at the time of Blumm's long tour throughout North America, Canada to Mexico. All songs are like fragile miniatures, with frameworks of guitar or percussions, and a slow, linear drift - sometimes repetitive - which in itself sounds almost like a solitary travel... Lots of instruments involved (guitar, bass, drums, glockenspiel, xylophone, harmonium, vibraphone, accordion, bontempi, melodica, casio keyboards, etc) to give it a rich flavor, but I think the key word here is "discretion". After hearing this, most of the music you like will probably seem too noisy.

14. Ja Helo [ft. Ronica Sanyal, Valerie Holt & Sari Breznau]
15. 2nd Class Sleeper
16. Dreams from Wounded Mouth [Remix of Degenerate Art Ensemble]
Filastine's Burn It is one of those rare debut albums that reveal an artist operating at the height of their powers. A hip-hop backbone supports live polyriddims, collaborating musicians, lush electronica, field recordings, and an array of guest MCs and singers. The result is genuinely fresh, streetwise, and solid.
Most folks who've spent years studying percussion are afraid to blend live beats into computers, but Filastine uses his drummer's skill - along with laptop and microphone - to redraw the musical map. He has studied under tabla superstar Zakir Hussein, played with coke-fueled samba bands in Rio de Janeiro, and soaked up knowledge in North Africa. Filastine's live performance is a clash of laptop, loudspeaker, midi triggers, live percussion, and often a vocalist. This spring he'll tour Europe alongside DJ/rupture.

The Nextmen
A Child's Introduction to Jazz
Wink 2006
Blimey, it's gonna be a short post from me today, cause you know The Nextmen have it with mixtapes and you know this is another lush eclectic mix, so don't take the "jazz" thing too literally, cause again they throw in pretty much everything with tons of blends and it's so jolly. Sorry, just entertain yerself.

Eingya due out on Type (where's that advance copy ffs?), I shall bless you with his first one as Helios. Not completely astounding cause of many possible references (cue usual BoC/Eno comparison), but I find it to be very worth respecting. It's got a start, a middle, an end. The rest is somewhere between pain and painkillers.
