'Casino' Re-Released, Nas Juelz Others Talk About Flick
By Nolan Strong and Tiffany Hamilton
It's no secret that Mobster movies play a huge role in the persona of many rappers. From their videos to album covers, even names, Mob films have a dominant effect on the Hip-Hop culture.
The film "Casino" which inspired Nas' video for "Street Dreams" and CD cover for "The Firm", his collaboration with Foxy, AZ and Nature, has been re-released in a 10th anniversary commemorative box set.
The film which was written by Nick Peleggi and stars Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Sharon Stone is considered among the ranks with such cult classics as "The Godfather," "Goodfellas" and "Scarface." It's initial release in 1995 was nominated for an Oscar and received a Golden Globe.
"Rappers relate to where mobster characters came from because they came up the same way,??€? Nas said. ??€?They come from the same areas as we do."
Casino is based on the true story of Chicago mobster Tony Spilotro, played by Joe Pesci (Nikki) and his relationship with Frank ??€?Lefty??€? Rosenthal (Sam Rothstein).
Rosenthal ran several mob backed casinos in Las Vegas, Nevada in the 1970??€s and 1980??€s.
The movie made an impact on one Harlem hustler, who took notes of the movie to avoid the same failings as Same "Ace" Rothstein, played by De Niro.
??€?I loved it but I couldn??€t figure out how Robert De Niro was so smart but so dumb to [let] a female ruin his hustle,??€? Juelz Santana said of Rothstein??€s love for Sharon Stone??€s character, Ginger, a drug addicted prostitute.
While most of the male rapper??€s focused on the story line, R&B singer Kelis was impressed by the movie??€s styling.
"The fashion in the movie is exemplary,??€? Kelis said. ??€?Sharon Stone??€s style was crazy, even her manicures were revolutionary.
The "Casino" DVD re-release is in stores now.

G-UNIT IS AN ARMY
50 Cent, Tony Yayo, and Olivia appeared on BET's 106 & Park late last week, revealing lots of information on what's next for the camp. During their live performance, 50 was wearing a t-shirt that said "G-Unit: Game Over" (get it?) with the M.O.P. logo on one side, and the Mobb Deep logo on the back. Later in the interview, 50 revealed that they had already recorded 30 tracks for Mobb Deep's upcoming LP, not to mention 30 tracks for Lloyd Banks next album, and an already completed LP for Young Buck. Also promoting the upcoming LP's from Tony Yayo and Olivia, 50 also revealed that his re-release of "The Massacre" would now include a DVD featuring videos for all 21 songs, including the newly added "Outta Control (Remix)" featuring Mobb Deep (can you say "double dipping?"). Meanwhile, 50 also announced that his 8 Mile-esque movie and soundtrack "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" would drop November 11th. If that wasn't enough for you, 50 also announced his upcoming book (huh?) and of course the "Bulletproof" video game, all due by the end of the year. Over-exposure, eat your heart out. Meanwhile, we've marked down copies of 50's "The Massacre" to $6 and $9 for standard and deluxe editions (dis)respectively, get them for cheap while you can.

U-God Prepping 'Mr. Xcitement'
By Kye Stephenson
Original Wu-Tang Clan member, U-God, is set to release his second solo Lp titled Mr. Xcitement.
The album is the first project released from U-God since he released Ugodz-Illa Presents: The Hillside Scramblers in 2004.
Following in the tradition of his hardcore songs "Bizarre" and "Rumble" from his debut album Golden Arms Redemption, U-God aims to show another side of himself this time around.
"Mr. Xcitment ain't just about partying...I took my time [on this album], I didn't rush the shit," U God stated. Listeners can definitely expect an introspective look at U-God??€s life throughout the album.
"[People} don't realize the "U" in U-God stands for universal," he says. It means - no boundaries, infinity, it goes on forever."
