Biography

Ryu

From one of LA??€s most respected crews, comes Ryu, commonly referred to as ??€?The Ranch Dressing Of Rap??€?, for his ability to bring flavor to anything he touches. With two successful albums and many high profile appearances to his credit, Ryu is poised to blow (no homo). In between beers this guy enjoys smoking, lamping, camping, and afternoon napping. Currently Ryu and Tak are hard at work on their third album, ??€?Triple Bitchin??€? slated for release in early 2005. With production by Apathy, Chum, Vin Skully, and Cheapshot, ??€?Triple Bitchin??€? is sure to ship triple platinum. With his beats, rhymes, and extensive knowledge of the independent game, Ryu will prove to be an incredible asset to the Demigodz. He has recently been featured in a worldwide Gatorade commercial as well as contributing rhymes to the chart topping Crystal Method hit ??€?The Name of the Game??€?. With all he??€s accomplished, Ryu remains hungry, and fortunately for him, the over saturated underground provi! des plenty to eat (no homo).

Tak

Born Takbir Bashir, ??€?Tak??€? has been around hip hop his entire life. The brother of legendary producer Bilal Bashir, Tak had to look no further than his own room for inspiration. Raised in the same house as Divine Styler, Everlast of House Of Pain, Def Jef, and Kokni O??€ Dire, he began honing his craft at a young age, when in 1995 he hooked up with partner to be Ryu at an LA community college and formed the group Styles of Beyond. Tak has been compared to the likes of a young Rakim and has even caught the attention of Hollywood, with an appearance in the movie ??€?She??€s All That??€?. With an impressive resume and rhymes to back it up, you can expect Tak to play an important role as a member of the Demigodz.

El-Fudge
Image

Biography

The crown holder of Washington Heights, NYC - El-Fudge - is an emcee whose feats many have been unsuccessful to match. Born and raised in the uptown section of Manhattan, Elvin Rosario aka El-Fudge (obtaining his name from the famous Keebler cookie cartoon character) always had a passion for rhyming, but mainly just for fun. After he started spitting at neighborhood parties and receiving mucho props he decided to have his words heard by a bigger audience. Calling into Mayhem & Sunset's underground radio show on 89.1FM in NY, Fudge could always be heard rhyming on the air via the telephone and eventually the hosts invited him as a guest on the live show - multiple times - showcasing his uncanny off the dome freestyle ability.

In late 1996 hardcore hip hop fans might remember strange small side-column ads in The Source for a then-unknown little label with a razor blade logo. During the early stages of what has become Rawkus Records - it was built with a strong foundation of classic 12" singles from artists like Mos Def, Reflection Eternal, Sir Menelik, Shabaam Sahdeeq and "L-Fudge". Fudge gained his first record deal and in 1997 released his highly selling debut single "Liquid" b/w" Show Me Your Gratitude" & "What If?". The world had then become introduced to El-Fudge and his microphone antics. Many fans are confused over his sudden name-spelling change from "L" Fudge to "EL" Fudge, but the latter was actually how it was originally intended to be spelled - only because of Rawkus' legal worries over the Keebler-copyrighted character. Fudge has since moved on to bring back his original name.

Over the past 5 years, Fudge has released a plethora of material to his underground fans, has toured all over the world and has collaborated with everyone from Talib Kweli to UK pop band Another Level. He has performed with the likes of Gang Starr, De La Soul, Pharoahe Monch, and Mos Def and received critical acclaim in such magazines as The Source & Vibe. He has blazed many mix tape and radio freestyles and worked with such producers as DJ Spinna, Vinyl Reanimators, Stoupe (Jedi Mind Tricks), Unsung Heroes, Rich Boogie, and many more. He released a full length album in late 2000 entitled "Chronic Irresponsibility" on CD and double vinyl on the UK-based Sure Shot Records - and, after years of chillin' with fellow emcees Apathy, Celph Titled and Louis Logic, he also became a part of the Demigodz family in 2001 and was featured on the wild-out posse cut, "The Godz Must Be Crazy".

Now, with a new label - Illustrious Entertainment, Fudge plans to continue to take his music to the next level and broaden his audience to the absolute maximum. Always sharp, witty, and with a hilarious sense of humor, you can always tell when El-Fudge blesses a track. Many things wait ahead in the future for his music, including new singles, a new approach to the rap game and of course more collaborations with his Demigodz associates. Definitely be sure to check out www.illustriousent.com for more info and don't say you never heard the "Cinnamon Dominican" beat you over the face with his words!

APATHY
Image

Biography

At 25 years of age, Apathy could very well be hip-hop's next big thing. The Connecticut based emcee, who spent most of his life bouncing from place to place, first discovered hip-hop through Melle Mel's verses on Chaka Kahn's "Feel For You", writing his own lyrics to match the track. By 1991, Ap started taking this rap shit seriously, and a few short years later, Ap made his debut on wax, appearing on three tracks on Jedi Mind Tricks critically acclaimed underground debut "The Psycho Social" LP in 1996.

But it wasn't until 1998 that Apathy graduated from guest artist to solo artist. With an initial show-stealing verse on an Eddie Ill and D.L. freestyle, Apathy soon followed suit with several incredible solo singles including "Compatible", "Just Begun", "School", and "Ain't Nuttin' Nice", each released through Bronx Science Records. Linking up with Celph Titled, a former employee of Bronx Science's distributor, Buds, Apathy helped form the Demigodz crew, which also included strong underground acts such as 7L & Esoteric, El Fudge, Louis Logic, Rise, Open Mic, and others.

After The Demigodz crew released their debut EP, "The Godz Must Be Crazy", the major label bidding war began. Said Apathy, "Interscope was interested in Celph and I as a group. Jason McGuire and Jimmy Iovine flew us out to LA, rented us a vehicle, put us up in a bangin' hotel on Sunset Blvd, gave us company cell phones and shit... it was dope." But Apathy wasn't quick to sign the dotted line with the big "I", as other labels also had offers on the table. "While we were out there, we met up with Mike Caren from Atlantic. Interscope was dope, but they have a lot on their plate and probably wouldn't have given us the attention we needed. Mike Caren set up a meeting with Craig Kalman (ceo of Atlantic) and Craig was interested. Mike really didn't feel Celph and I as a group for whatever reason, and wanted to sign me as a solo artist." While the signing to Atlantic as a solo artist may seemed like a bum deal for Celph, Ap assures it only strengthened the Demigodz' relationship. "I know people would probably assume that's wack, but Celph and I are completely fine with it. We're like Redman and Method man, or Ghost and Rae, we're partners no matter what. So Celph was worked into the contract for guaranteed guest appearances and production. Celph is happy, cuz he didn't really wanna make that jump yet... but we do shit regardless, so its a perfect scenario," said Ap.

What can we expect from the major label debut? "I have a few different ideas for what the album will be called, but I haven't decided yet, so I'm gonna keep that under wraps," says Apathy. As far as production, I've been workin' with a lot of different producers, but I have no idea who's actual shit we're gonna use. So far the only definite production is from Celph, Chum The Skrilla Guerilla, DJ Khalil (Self Scientific) and 8th Wundah. I've been workin with Alchemist, Pete Rock, Megahurtz (the producer), Rick Rock, EZ Elpee, and Carlos 6th July Brody. If I don't get a Primo beat... I quit. As far as guest appearances, the only definite ones right now are me, Celph, Lord Digga, and Bambue. But, I do intend on getting some other people on there. I want to get Pharoahe Monch, Ghostface,..... a lot of other people. But everything is still in its beginning stages."

Biography

What would happen if you combined the extensive knowledge of hip hop's history, off the dome freestyle mastery, flawless stage perfomance ability, deadly rhyme tactics, and... the urge to lethally swoop down upon your prey for the kill? You'd probably come up with none other than a creature known as the "Esoteradactyl" - but more importantly, this microphone carnivore would translate onto audio media formats as the MC ESOTERIC.

Crafting his skills as an MC in the late 80s, "Seamus the God Awful" would study the penmanship of the rappers who were current stars of the genre. During that particular time period, hip hop was in its "golden era" and it was a perfect time for a young aspiring MC to come up in and who better to learn from than legends like Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, Chuck D, Kool G. Rap, LL Cool J, and Stetsasonic? As time went on, Esoteric became more and more involved in within his local Boston rap arena and in 1992, as a college radio host, met a local DJ and fellow hip hop head, 7L. They decided to form a group, in which they came up with the name God Complex. After many years of performing small shows, recording demos, and perfecting their musical approach, it was through that creation that Esoteric made his first appearance on wax in 1996 with the Architects of Intellect/God Complex split EP released by independent upstart Boston-based Brick Records. The record was a shot in the dark into the major label monopolized hip hop industry, but it ended up receiving an astronomical amount of attention all across the States and Europe, with little to no promotion. The mic stylings of Esoteric were very unorthodox at that time, combining sci-fi references with hardcore battle influenced rhymes. Due to the record's success, the label decided to release a full length compilation album in 1997 entitled "Rebel Alliance". It was with this album that Esoteric, after organizing his group into the underground household name simply put as "7L & Esoteric", showcased a song called "Be Alert". The 'Transformers'-sampled track has become a classic phenomenon and made its staple on the underground when it was also released as part of a 12" single that included the well-received cuts "Protocol" and "Touch the Mic". History had been made....

Esoteric continued his reign as a one-of-a-kind MC throughout the next handful of years, releasing a number of best-selling 12" vinyl records. As his audience grew and he became more involved within the independent hip hop scene, he began collaborating with and befriending other artists who shared his tastes. In late 1997, Eso and 7L joined forces with Philadelphia's Jedi Mind Tricks (Ikon the Hologram & Stoupe the Enemy of Mankind) to form a supergroup of sorts which also included Bahamadia, Chief Kamachi, and Virtuoso --- ARMY OF THE PHARAOHS. The group's recordings surfaced in the form of the classic "Five Perfect Exertions" single released on JMT's Superegular Recordings in 1998. The group has since restructured its members and a full length is planned for release in the future. Interestingly enough, it was through this whole circle of artists that Esoteric met Apathy due to his early involvement with Jedi Mind Tricks. Over time, the two New England MCs kept building and as Apathy established himself on the scene and decided to form his own crew, it was a must that his friend Esoteric became part of the Demigodz family.

To date, Esoteric has toured all over the United States and Europe numerous times with some of underground hip hop's biggest names. Along with his partner 7L, he has released two full length albums - 2001's "The Soul Purpose" and 2002's "Dangerous Connection". Both of these albums spawned a number of popular singles and have enabled Esoteric to collaborate and share cameos with the likes of Inspectah Deck, Mr. Lif, DJ Vadim, J-Live, DJ Spinna, Kutmasta Kurt, Akrobatik, Count Bass D, and the list goes on. As his career continues to prosper, Eso's name is impossible to miss amongst the underground world and it will soon be a universally recognized title across all ears and languages. A force to be reckoned with, a king to be crowned, and an MC to be respected...

Rise

Biography

Do you know him? If not, you soon will. Born Jean Myrthil, Rise hails from the Park Slope section of Brooklyn. "The artist in Jean" has successfully, with little promotion, established himself as one of the more prominent independent artists. Rise has become a household name within the underground circuit. In 1998, he expanded his role for a commercial appearance on the famed "Lyricist Lounge Volume 1" album on Rawkus Records which garnered attention from much of the important music industry. Rise began his career stunning the hip hop community with feature after feature of recordings with established producers, independent artists, and underground mixtape appearances. Industry insiders began to take note early on and were impressed by his hustle, talent and pure ambition.

In 1999, after running into Rise at many of those famed Lyricist Lounge ciphers, then up-and-coming MC, Apathy, noticed Rise's impeccable skills and the two began spitting their clever rhymes back and forth, impressing each other respectfully. That connection further lead up to Rise becoming a member of the now world renown Demigodz collective and sparked classic recordings such as "The Smackdown", "Every Emcee", and eventually contributing razor sharp verses to the mega-popular "The Godz Must Be Crazy" EP released in 2002.

From his humble beginnings, Rise raised the bar for hip hop by formulating a distinct delivery with an abundance of witty punchlines, vivid storytelling and thought-provoking verses. Collecting more fans as he travelled through the New York City underground show circuit, he built a name for himself amongst his contemporaries as the rapper to emulate. Rise has managed to gain attention from the worldwide hip-hop community by touring Japan, Sweden and Denmark. Rise was also able to fulfill his dream of starting his own label with the introduction of his very own, Results Period Records.

Rise's formula was gracefully displayed on his debut single, "Do You Know Him?", released in 2000 on PhonoSynthetic Records. The track lives up to all the expectations and silences all non-believers to his talent with lines like: "Sometimes I'm glad that people don't know that I'm raw / cause superstar rappers can't go to the grocery store", "You ain't better / cause you been rhyming longer than Rise / I've been nice a few years / you been wack since '85 / You're a signed act and everybody thinks you can rap / that's alright cause everybody thought the planet was flat".... The list of quotables go on as Rise wastes no lines in his rhymes, compelling you to toss his music into your rotation. On his 2nd single, he also continues to display lyrical prowess on the Apathy-produced A-side, "The Wickedest Flow" b/w the Celph Titled-crafted B-side, "No Faith", released in 2001 which was received very well sales-wise. The list of wax releases continued further with "BKNY/I Know" and "Evolution/Part of the Game/Make Sure (That We Win)".

After already having harnessed the NYC area and establishing himself as a household name internationally, Rise sets out to take over the rest of the country with his full length debut album to be released in conjunction with MCS Entertainment and major label distributor, Universal Music. The forthcoming album promises not to disappoint as it will deliver solid lyricism and focus on the actual artist you are buying the CD from, showcasing only Rise the MC holding his own entire LP down. The album features production from fellow Demigod Celph Titled, Evil Dee & Mr. Walt of the Beatminerz, DJ Spinna, DJ Static, and Rise himself among others that have lent their talents to make this an album with staying power. Results Period and Rise are sure to shake up the music world and the universe that surrounds it and prove that 'in this rap game he's nobody' (why?) "Nobody's perfect!"

Celph Titled

Biography

Take cover - the fusion of raw aggression and slap-you-in-the-face beats is about to explode. Celph Titled, spawned from the golden era of rap music, has decided to capture an entire realm of the hip hop spectrum that has been in captivity for so many years --- the RAWNESS!

Priding himself on being an incredible emcee as well as one of the best known and sought after beatmakers in the underground, "The Rubix Cuban" has definitely made an impact on the world of hip hop music. Gaining worldwide notoriety for his famous punchline-filled cameos alongside records with the likes of Apathy, Boogiemonsters, L-Fudge, Rise, Louis Logic, J-Zone, Masterminds, Esoteric, Rahsheed, Lexicon, and C-Rayz Walz --- Celph Titled is a name that is hard to avoid. Most importantly, he has laid down beats for such heavyweights as Kool G. Rap, Ice-T, Soul For Real, Kurious, Apani B-Fly, Lord Digga, 7L & Esoteric, Shabaam Sahdeeq, King Sun, Big Scoob, Truth Enola, and many more.

Celph Titled, born and raised in Tampa and now a New York City resident, always had a knack for expressing his creativity in an entertaining fashion. Being raised in such a multi-cultural tropical landscape, the Latino lyricist was exposed to a wide array of music and experiences. From his early demos dating back to 1992 to his first official group, Equilibrium in 1997, his music has continued to go nowhere else but up. He released his first two official records in late 1998 on his own imprint, Atomik Recordings. One of which was with his group, Equilibrium, which consisted of two other Floridian emcees - DutchMassive & Majik Most, as well as a veteran DJ - Kramtronix. The single was a 3-song 12" consisting of the Tampa anthem "Fahrenheit 813", the conscious "Critical Conditions" which featured then-EMI recording artist Vex of the Boogiemonsters, and the highly controversial "Windows 98" which sampled the Microsoft Windows '95 start-up music and was even rumored that Bill Gates himself gave the group a holla. The second single was from the Walkmen, entitled "Fortruss", which was a huge success especially in Japan for an unknown group and has gone to sell over 12,000 copies independently to date. Ever since then, it has been history as Celph Titled has single-handedly dominated the underground hip hop realm.

As a soloist, the gruff-voiced rapper made his debut in November 2001 with the release of his 12" single, "Right Now" b/w "It Ain't" & "Root Beers In Your Fridge (w/ Apathy)". The urban radio chart topping A-side, "Right Now", is produced by none other than the legendary Mark the 45 King, most recently known for his platinum hits with Eminem ("Stan") and Jay-Z ("Hard Knock Life") among his classic old school contributions. The single was an instant success, spawning commercial mix show spins worldwide and even gaining the attention of NYC tastemaker Funkmaster Flex and Wake Up Show shot caller, DJ Revolution. This record was an amazing feat for an underground artist to accomplish, while Celph considers it simply "a small step towards something much bigger."

If his own solo endeavors weren't enough, he is a lead member of the Demigodz. Just off the names alone involved in this conglomerate, the buzz for the crew as a whole spans across the globe in anxious anticipation of a collective full length release as well as each individual members' projects. The CD and double vinyl EP, "The Godz Must Be Crazy" was released in April 2002 on the Los Angeles-based Ill Boogie Records with distribution through Caroline/EMI. On this release, the entire family joined together and Celph Titled spits venom on every song as well as having produced half of the EP himself. The record has been a huge success and even garnered the attention of major labels such as Interscope, Warner Bros, Dreamworks, Priority/Capitol - and eventually lead to the signing of Apathy to Atlantic Records in September 2002.

So, in closing - the truth is - Celph Titled is a highly versatile, talented, and marketable artist. He is currently working on his debut full length LP, which enlists some of the biggest names in hardcore hip hop making contributions. While he does not have a home yet for this project, he is seeking one and is planning on creating one of the best raw hip hop albums of his time. Besides his own album, he is also staying busy appearing on and producing much of Apathy's forthcoming underground releases as well as his yet to be completed major label debut on Atlantic.

There are really no words to describe his persona, thus only a name like Celph Titled would fit such a character.
