Exclusive: Aesop Rock Writes Nike Workout Soundtrack
Fast cars, danger, fire & knives: all in a day's jog
Because nothing screams "let's go for a run!" like a guy who raps about the seedy underbelly of the human spirit, Aesop Rock is the latest artist to contribute to Nike's "Nike + Original Run" series. (You might recall that the last person to do this was some dude who calls himself LCD Soundsystem.)
The Def Jukie's piece, entitled All Day, is "a 45-minute continuous mix [that] was created specifically with runners in mind and reflects Aesop Rock's distinct and unique style." The snippet that we've heard has a retro space-funk feel, laidback with Aesop's typically gravelly voice flowing on top. Not exactly pump-you-up kind of stuff, but maybe this is just the warmup? Or the cool-down?
In a press release, the man known to his mother as Ian Bavitz had this to say: "I wanted to create something that evolved enough that the sound was constantly fresh and attractive, as if the runner were moving through a set of differing cities or landscapes."
All Day: Nike + Original Run will be available only at the iTunes store starting February 13. It will set you back $9.99.
We guess this is what Aesop Rock was talking about back in December, when he posted on his MySpace page about a mysterious project that's "not really an album but it kind of is."

Devin The Dude Returns With Fourth Album
Texas rapper, Devin The Dude, is back in full effect. Known for his homegrown blend of the lighter side of reality, the rapper returns with his fourth studio release, Waiting To Inhale, courtesy of Rap-A-Lot Records.
Since his debut in the early '90s, The Dude has become well known for his humorous social commentary, which has earned him the nickname, the "Richard Pryor of Hip-hop." Though a little less raunchy then his previous offering, To the Extreme, he still comes raw and uncut as ever, as he laces the classically styled grooves provided by his original Coughee Brothers crew.
Although he definitely tries to make you laugh, he also will make you think with his uncanny ability to make listeners think between the comedic lines.
The first single from the new album is "Little Girl Gone," featuring Bun B and Lil Wayne, which the rapper's camp says is a glimpse into the more emotional side of the Dude, as he delves into the inner-city's inner child gone awry.
Although the perils of the streets aren't always a laughing matter, humor always gives hope as far as the lyrical crooner is concerned.
Waiting to Exhale deals with an array of relationship issues dealt with from the male perspective, according to the rapper.
"I think women tend to filter things out a little more often then men do," explains Devin. "Men tend to hold things in till the very end until they're about to blow. I think it helps to take a deep breath and relax your mind a little. It helps you deal with things a lot better and it's better than going on a drinking binge."
From the homicidal ballad, "Just Because," to the hilarious skits, Devin plans to make his fans see the cultural dramedy of everyday living.
Waiting to Exhale is slated for release on March 13.
He is currently on a national promotional tour. For more info and tour dates, visit Myspace.com/DevinTheDude.

It’s Official, 50 Cent Starts War With Cam’ron [Diss Track/Video Included]
291 Views | News - HipHop | Added on February 9th, 2007
Barely a week after having a heated argument with Cam’ron on the radio, 50 Cent has released a video taking shots at the Diplomat honcho.
50 appeared on Angie Martinez’s Hot 97 radio show last week and while discussing with Lox member Styles P, the G-Unit boss claimed he could stop a record from coming out at Koch Records. Moments later, Cam’ron would call into question 50’s statement and inquire why he would allow his own artist, Mobb Deep’s Prodigy, to sign with a label he referred to as a "graveyard".
>> Stream 50 Cent - Funeral Music (Cam’Run Diss)
>> Download 50 Cent - Funeral Music (Single)
>> Stream or download video
Cam would then begin to taunt 50 and also mock the low sales of albums recently released by Lloyd Banks and Mobb Deep. The Harlem bred rapper would then be taken off-air and 50 gave an indication of retaliation. Later on, after 50 had left the show, Jim Jones would call in trying to keep the peace.
The video, titled "Funeral Music," begins with a hearse rolling by with the words "Cam’ron’s Career" written on it. The clip features G-Unit members flashing guns and money and ends with an animation reenacting Cam’s Lamborghini getting shot up in Washington D.C, last year.
During the video’s outro 50 pokes fun at Cam’ron’s lyrical prowess and seemingly sides with Jimmy.
"I’m not gonna destroy Dipset, just tryna maintain it," he scoffs. "From now on Jimmy’s the boss of Dipset, Juelz is the capo, Cam is demoted to soldier. We like Jimmy better anyway, Balllin’!"
"C’mon man, what’s the last Cam joint you liked?" 50 continues . "Computers computing, boggetey booting? Cam’ron, you better learn how to talk to me!"

It was a night fit for a Hip-Hop soul queen as Mary J. Blige collected three trophies Sunday (Feb. 11) during the 49th Annual Grammy Awards.
The singer, who garnered eight nominations and brought the house down with an emotional performance of "Be Without You", won the Grammy for Best R&B Album for the The Breakthrough as well as Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance. Br "For so many years I've been talked about negatively and this time I am being talked about positively by so many people," said Blige, who later vowed to use her success to "build bridges, not to burn them."
T.I. took home two Grammys for Best Rap Solo Performance for "What You Know" and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for "My Love" with Justin Timberlake.
Gnarls Barkley scored two Grammy awards for Best Urban/Alternative Performance and Alternative Music Album, while Chamillionnaire won for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.
Backed by Blige and Earth, Wind and Fire, Ludacris performed "Runaway Love" moments after sending a special shout out to Bill O'Reily and Oprah Winfrey upon accepting the Grammy for Best Rap Album for Release Therapy.
The performance was among a string of memorable renditions which included "Listen" from Beyonce and "What Goes Around...Comes Back Around" by a piano playing Timberlake.
The past and the present met during a tribute to R&B music featuring Smokey Robinson, Lionel Richie, Chris Brown and Christina Aguilera.
While Robinson sang "Tracks of My Tears" and Richie performed "Hello," Brown thrilled the audience with his crew of steppers/dancers for "Run It."
Aguilera closed the set with a powerful rendition of James Brown's "It's a Man's, Man's, Man's World.
The pop diva's homage was the second acknowledgment of the late soul legend as he was recognized during the Grammy's annual remembrance of performers and music industry professionals who died last year.
In honor of Brown, a cape was draped over a microphone stand at the end of the remembrance.
The action was done at the finale of Brown's concerts, in which the singer was covered in a cape after dropping to his knees at the end of a song, only to rise up and continue performing.
Brown's fellow Grammy nominee Corinne Bailey Rae received assistance from John Mayer and John Legend as she sung "Like A Star."
The trio continued their collaboration by joining forces for songs by Legend and Mayer.
Other Grammy winners included Stevie Wonder, who took home Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for his duet with Tony Bennett, "For Once in My Life"; Ike Turner, who won traditional blues album for Risin' with the Blues and Rick Rubin, a first-time Grammy winner for producer of the year, non-classical division.
Beyoncé's B'Day also won for Best Contemporary R&B Album, while Legend received the award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for "Heaven," and Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals for "Family Affair" with Joss Stone and Van Hunt.
The night also proved to be an event for Robin Troup, who won the My Grammy Moment contest.
The 18-year-old Houston, Texas resident took the stage to perform "Ain't No Sunshine" and "My Love" with Timberlake and T.I.

On: After years of being tightlipped about his highly anticipated Detox album, Dr. Dre recently spoke about his long awaited opus on Big Boy’s Power 106 radio show in Los Angeles.
During a call in to the station to celebrate his birthday (February 18), the legendary producer confirmed that Detox will be dropping this year.
"I’m trying to get everybody that I’ve ever worked with over the years to appear on the records," explained Dre.
"There are gonna be some new guys that I’m working with, Bishop Lamont and Slim the Mobster [Watch Video], those two guys I think are incredible, new artists out of the west coast that I’m trying to get out there"
"Trust me, this will be worth the wait, I’m trying to make this the one they remember me for. It’s a lot of pressure but I’m feeling good about it. I feel like I’m my worst critic and if I’m loving it, everyone else will," he continued. " I’m tryna put 12, 13 songs on the album. I’m not totally sure about the month but it will be definitely be out this year."
Ludacris has been steadily climbing back up the chart lately, thanks to an undeserved win for Best Rap Album at the Grammys.
