Another vintage DMX moment, this one takes place in Germany

Post by sunrah »

Two men have filed complaints with police in Berlin, Germany, claiming that U.S. rap star DMX assaulted them in a Berlin nightclub.

DMX was in Berlin??€s Sage Club last Friday (Sept. 16) following an appearance earlier in the evening.

The rapper became involved in an altercation with Oliver Osterode, 24 and Julian Schmidt, 24, allegedly comments made while in the bathroom.

"I wanted to go to the bathroom and met DMX,??€? Osterode told German newspaper BZ. ??€?I told him that I think he's cool, but Lil??€ Jon is better. Then he freaked out. He slapped me in the face, and then his bodyguards attacked us." ( oricine cred ca i-ar fi spart fata, mare jignire! )

Osterode suffered a swollen eye, bruised ribs and other lacerations, while Schmidt reportedly suffered bruises to his abdomen.

Managers for DMX have assigned a Munich based lawyer to investigate the incident. Representatives for the rapper were not available as of press time.

Top Rappers Set 2Pac's Poetry To Music

Post by preacher »

Rappers such as Talib Kweli, Ludacris and Dead Prez have written new songs inspired by the poetry of the late Tupac Shakur published in "The Rose that Grew From Concrete." Due Sept. 20 via Amaru Entertainment/Koch, the 15-track "The Rose, Vol. 2" also features tracks from Memphis Bleek, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Lyfe Jennings, the Outlawz and Shakur's former Digital Underground colleague, Shock G.

In addition, there are contributions from current and former attendees of the annual Tupac Summer Performing Arts Camp, including Celina Nixon, who know serves as the artistic director for the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation.

Proceeds from "The Rose, Vol. 2" will benefit the foundation and the construction of the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts in Atlanta. A bronze memorial statue of the rapper will be unveiled Sept. 13 in the city.

"We knew something was going on with the kid, but we didn't know how much," Shock G told Billboard.com last December when reflecting on Tupac's legacy. "It wasn't until he died that we started to see how every little thing he did was a piece of a larger plan. At least we worked with him. We never turned our back on him. We thought he was a great rapper but we had no idea he'd become the 'greatest.' I thought he could be the next Nas or the next LL Cool J, but not the god of hip-hop he turned out to be."

Here is the track list for "The Rose, Vol. 2":

Intro featuring Black Ice
"Power of a Smile" featuring Bone Thugs-N-Harmony
"The Eternal Lament" featuring Celina Nixon
"Fallen Star" featuring Talib Kweli
"In the Depths of Solitude" featuring Ludacris
"Movin' On" featuring Lyfe Jennings
"Life Through My Eyes" featuring Memphis Bleek and Tupac Shakur
"When Ure Heart Turns Cold" featuring Outlawz
"Black Woman" featuring Jamal Joseph and Che Davis
"Only 4 the Righteous" featuring Yoyo
"Where There Is a Will" featuring Boot Camp Clik
"When Ur Hero Falls" featuring Impact Kids
"And 2morrow" featuring Shock G
"If I Fail" featuring Dead Prez
"Poetry" featuring Amber and Morgan of Pac's Kids

Jay Z not liking white people taking over hiphop

Post by sunrah »

Jay Z not liking white people taking over hiphop

Jay-Z aka Shawn Carter has hit out at white folk encroaching on the predominantly black hip hop scene.
The president of Def Jam appreciates those white folk who contribute to the scene and culture but dislikes those who just jump on the urban band wagon.
After winning the GQ Award for International Man Of The Year he said to the magazine: "They think they can say those words and take ownership of hip-hop. You can't. It's a lifestyle. It's a culture. It's not just music.

"It's the way you present yourself, the way you talk, it's all that. You can't just say 'holler back' and you're in. It doesn't work like that."

He went onto say: "Look at Eminem. He grew up around the culture his whole life. He's not capitalising off the culture, in my opinion. It's what he is."

Well, sor-ry Jay-Z, didn??€t know you owned hip hop??€¦oh sorry, you practically do.
Yeah, hiphop aint about color Jay. Hiphop is a lifestyle. The problem, aint about saying "hollaback", its about talented rappers not getting the opportunity to show off their skills.

Keith Murray Hit With Lawsuit, Preparing 5th Album
By Nolan Strong
Date: 9/23/2005 5:40 pm

Rapper Keith Murray has been hit with a lawsuit stemming from a stabbing at Webster Hall in New York last year.

The lawsuit was filed in Kings County Court in Brooklyn, New York, claiming that the rapper allegedly stabbed a fan during a concert in the early morning hours of Christmas day of 2004.

The legal action comes as the rapper is recording material to release his fifth album, Beautifully Ugly, which is scheduled for a 2006 release through a recently inked deal with Def Squad/Koch Records.

The rapper spent 33 months in prison for a second degree assault conviction for his role in a fight with a Connecticut nightclub promoter. He was incarcerated from 1998 to 2001 and released in May of 2001.

Murray served the term, but consistently denied committing the crime throughout his stint in prison and after he was released.

Murray??€s 1994 debut, The Most Beautifullest Thing in the World, has sold over 500,000 copies, was certified gold and spawned Murray??€s best known hit of the same name.

President Jay-Z's Latest Act: The Roots Ink With Def Jam
09.22.2005 5:08 PM EDT

Signing is the fulfillment of a high-school dream for the long-running Philly rap group, The Roots!
Image

NEW YORK ??€ Beyonc?©, Kelly and Michelle aren't the only ones who can say they fulfilled their destiny this year: The Roots have realized their youthful dream of signing to the label that Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin created.
"The Roots got a new home," drummer ?uestlove said Wednesday in New York. He was at the Hammerstein Ballroom, participating in rehearsals for VH1's upcoming "Hip-Hop Honors" awards show. "You know, back in high school in Philadelphia, when the Roots first started, me and [Roots rapper] Black Thought just used to sit in lunch making our album covers, what they would look like. We would put the Def Jam logo on the bottom. That was a pipe dream. Now, some 12, 13 years later, nine albums later, we're putting out an album and there is gonna be a Def Jam logo imprint on the bottom of it.

"It's a legacy, it's historical," ?uest continued. "Of course, for the Roots, the most important thing for us is providing grade-quality, hip-hop connoisseur music. So we're very excited to have a new home. We're gonna maximize on it. [The new album] is 15 songs, it's gonna be our darkest, craziest record since [2002's] Phrenology, [1996's] Illadelph Halflife. This is a dirty, dirty record ??€ a raw-sounding record."

The Roots and Jay-Z, of course, have worked together extensively onstage: The group backed Hova for his 2001 Unplugged LP, and ?uest served as musical director for Jay's "farewell" concert, which became the Fade to Black film (see "The Roots' ?uestlove Recalls Jay-Z Farewell Show; Hopes To Inspire Young Musicians" and "Mary J., Missy, R. Kelly, Beyonce Join Jay-Z At Madison Square Garden").

The Roots are almost done recording their new LP ??€ which is titled Game Theory ??€ and it will be out in either February or March. So far they've recorded with Black Star (that's Talib Kweli and Mos Def, in case you forgot) and Saigon. There may be a Jay-Z guest appearance on the album, but that hasn't been confirmed just yet.
"We'll see what's up," ?uest smiled. "I just want him to guide our careers. Of course, being on Def Jam doesn't mean you'll get a free Hova verse."

He paused, then said with a light giggle, "I don't know, does it mean you'll get a free Hova verse? I don't know."

Kardinal Offishall "Fire & Glory" - September 26, 2005

Kardinal has changed many preconceived notions of what a hip-hop artist is. He doesn't hail from New York, L.A. , or Atlanta; he embraces his Canadian Jamaican heritage. He is the unofficial ambassador of Toronto.

At least when it comes to hip-hop, Kardi's positive outlook was strained by label drama that saw his then-label, MCA, absorbed into Geffen in 2003 right before the release of the now-scrapped "F-Word Theory", the official follow-up to 2001's "Firestarter Vol. 1: Quest for Fire". While shopping around for a new deal, the patois-spitting, triple-threat rapper/producer/singer guested on a slew of remixes from Neptunes affiliates Clipse's "Grindin" to UK grime star Lethal Bizzle's "Pow!".
Now with a new home, Kardi is getting ready to relase his new LP "Fire & Glory". We have the tracklisting and a preview track for you to check out.

Tracklinsting:

01. Last Standing Soldier
02. E.G.G. (Everybody Gone Gangsta) ft. Vybz Kartel
03. Heads Up
04. Everyday (Rudebwoy) ft. Ray Robinson
05. The Best Man
06. Freshie ft. Ro Dolla
07. Sunday
08. Kaysarasara ft. Estelle
09. Neva New (Till I Kissed You)
10. Mr. Officer ft. Rene Neufville (formerly of Zhan?©)
11. Whatchalike ft. Busta Rhymes
12. Fire and Glory
13. Feel Alright
14. All the Way
