The Native Tongues helped usher in the definition of a rap crew full of creativity and culture. The Jungle Brothers, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Queen Latifah, Monie Love, Black Sheep and Chi Ali (who was recently released from prison) exhibited flavor for the late 80s to early 90s. Two of the crew's members, Dres of Black Sheep and Jarobi of A Tribe Called Quest, linked to form the duo named Evitan (Native backwards). While this union seems unorthodox, as Dres being a lyrical swordsman and Jarobi hardly rapping back when he was in ATCQ, both MCs give their best efforts to a collaborative album titled Speed of Life. The fellas felt it was time to bring a spark to the industry that harks to the yesteryear of their days in the cool collective that promoted unity, brotherhood and ill rhymes. Judging from the illness of the project's production, Evitan looks to make a run at even being the first members to release an album in the name of Native Tongues honor.
